The Golden Gate Bridge

There are different ways of rejoicing the holidays, some travel to explore a  new destination while others get together with their families or friends. The one thing common between these two groups is they are in the Holiday spirit and all set to Celebrate the Holiday spirit. Biju, hailing from Kerala decided to explore the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco to not only explore the beautiful structure but to go on a photographic journey.. He shares his experience with a few photographs taken during his visit..

The Golden Gate Bridge ….from my early childhood days of my favorite author –  Alistair Maclean’s novel “The Golden Gate” , I had a  fantasy of visiting this place. What I dreamt was a “golden”  Golden Gate. Only Maclean could conceive such a devious  plot , I still remember the faint memories of a submarine waiting under the bridge to pick up the President of the country.
Possibly the most beautiful and certainly the most photographed bridge in the world. On our 1st day, we started off with a bay cruise from the famous Pier 39 that took us right below the bridge, around the Alcatraz and back again. A lovely sight, I could understand why every individual on that boat wanted their photographs clicked with the iconic symbol of San Francisco.

After having shot the bridge ( that was shot atleast a million times), we set off to Baker Beach. They say the Baker Beach is the best places to shoot the bridge with many different variations  of foreground elements. During sunset and after the  water recedes, the Golden Gate Bridge reflects in the wet sand , creating a lovely reflection and dance of lights. My MAN-U cap came useful since I could’nt find any foreground element (drift wood…footprints etc).

Just after sunset which was around early 5:15PM, the beach was empty. Uncomfortable with the thought that we were going to be alone shooting the bridge on a cold night, the sight of 3 fellow comrades with tripods and camera gears brought a delight to our faces… What a trip this has been…..

Smile please..

Holiday with a difference

There is something in the air, ah yes, its the Holiday spirit. December is the one month in the year that not only marks the end of the year, but also welcomes in all the celebration and cheer from around the world. People are looking forward to holidays, celebrating Christmas with their family, and a brand new year ahead. Deepak Amembal, an avid photographer and traveller shares with us a few images that show off the different facets to a holiday.

Holidays in our families are all about spending time with our loved ones, it is also when the grandparents come over for a visit… Or as in many cases, children go to their grandparents home for a visit. It could be to another house in the same town or a different place altogether. The few days the child bonds with their grandfather or grandmother is beautiful, the amount of fun they seem to have and ofcourse how their grandparents spoil them, much to the chagrin of the parents… Here is a shot of a child enjoying a walk with her grandmother, the moments that are priceless..
The other extreme would be when we travel to an unknown destination, to explore a new town. Getting away from the routine hustle and bustle of city life, escaping to the mountains or a town filled with history and heritage. The experience is precious, more so when travelling with loved ones…
